Toby Jasper Bricklaying are looking for a hardworking bricklaying apprentice with a good attitude towards working in construction. They are looking for someone who will fit in well in a smaller team, working on a site in and around Cornwall.
The Apprentice’s Role
Throughout your apprenticeship you will be taught the skills and knowledge you need to know to successfully complete the qualification.
The successful apprentice will learn how to use all the specialist hand tools, machinery and power tools associated with this role. You will need to show attention to detail when cutting and aligning brickwork and slabs.
Working Hours: You will be working around 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, hours may vary slightly depending on workload and travel time.
Wages: £256 per week, any overtime above the 40 hours per week, will be paid at the appropriate national minimum wage depending on age.
Holiday: 28 days holiday entitlement (including bank holidays) will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship
Toby Jasper Bricklaying are a well-respected, successful company who would like to invest in a hardworking apprentice.
They complete various bricklaying jobs such as block work, general brickwork, extensions and loft conversions, and, stonework. The employer, Toby Jasper, currently employs apprentices from Skills Group and wants to expand their work force.
On completion of your apprenticeship you will have the opportunity to go self employed and run your own business. In the future, you may want to purchase your own van and start taking on your own apprentices. However, a permanent job with the employer could also be possible for the right candidate.
Skills Required
You must be reliable with good time keeping skills, and you must be proactive. A passion for construction is also essential.

In order to be successful you will will be physically fit due to the nature of the role.Prior Qualifications
No formal qualifications are required for the position, however a keen interest in construction and willingness to succeed are essential.

As part of the apprenticeship programme, attendance is required at our Skills Group training centre for one day per week. All other aspects of the qualification will be delivered on-site by the employer. You will have regular visits every six to eight weeks from your designated Skills Group assessor, who will monitor your progress during your apprenticeship training.
Whilst at the Skills Group training centre, you will learn the necessary skills and gain experience to help you throughout your role. Part of your training will be knowledge and theory based, whilst the rest will be practical. You will develop your hand skills, carry out brick and block work, learn the correct use of specific tools, carry out pointing and learn mortar ratio mixes under the guidance of your assessor. Learning all these additional skills will benefit you on returning to the employer.
As an additional qualification you will also achieve your Emergency First Aid and Health and Safety Certificate, along with Internet Safety and Safeguarding.
As part of your apprenticeship Skills Group will also support you to complete your online CSCS test, which will enable you to apply for your CSCS Card. This shows that you are at the required competent level to carry out site work with the employer.
