Sunbeams Day Nursery in Plymouth have a fantastic opportunity for a motivated, creative apprentice to join their experienced team to undertake their training.
The Apprentice’s Role
The successful candidate will be required work as part of a team to help provide an exciting play based learning environment. Set up activities and get children involved with activities after-school or during holiday club & to help develop a safe,caring, supportive and secure environment to enable the physical and emotional well-being of all the children in the setting. You are required to work within the team to ensure the smooth day to day organisation and operation of the nursery provision. You need to work as part of a team to facilitate a child-centred approach based on active learning. As a Level 2 child care apprentice, you will be expected to have excellent observational and communication skills and will play an active part in the development of the children in your care.
You will help children to understand and demonstrate good health, hygiene and personal habits during meal times, rest periods and bathroom use, and model excellence whilst you assist in serving snacks and refreshments to children.
You be a great team player and have excellent standards of personal hygiene and appearance, be reliable and model positive behaviour at all times.
Working Hours: 35-40 hours a week over Monday-Friday between the hours of 8am-6pm.
Wages: £148.00 per week, based on a 40 hour week. Any overtime above the 40 hours per week, will be paid at the appropriate national minimum wage depending on age.
Holiday: 28 days holiday entitlement (including bank holidays) will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.

Sunbeams Day Nursery has been established since 1991. The present owner has managed the nursery since 2005. It operates from six rooms in an end terrace house in a largely residential Plymouth suburb & is registered to offer skilled childcare for up to forty children, within an interior that is ideal for making the most of early years learning potential.
The nursery offers parents the experience of a highly-qualified team, always eager to discuss progress with the aim of preparing all children well for the challenges of full-time education, thanks to sound physical, social and emotional development.

On completion of your qualification, you will have the opportunity to developing your skills, experience and knowledge further within the working environment.

The successful candidate needs to be outgoing and able to work using own initiative. As an apprentice you will have an interest in the needs of young children & have the ability to work as part of a team & understand the importance of confidentiality.
You will need to have good communication skills when dealing with children and adults, and will be reliable and hardworking. The successful candidate must have great leadership and organisational skills, and be confident in everything they do. You must have the ability to work under pressure, as well as possess good problem solving skills and flexibility in your approach to work.
The successful applicant will need to be highly reliable and extremely patient, with a kind, fair and supportive approach to be able to work effectively in this child care setting.
As an apprentice, you must be able to work with other adults and be able to demonstrate good teamwork skills, and where required, have the ability to work alone in an organised and focused manner.
An ability to communicate well with children, staff and parents is essential.
Qualifications required for this role, include GCSE grades A-C in Maths and English or equivalent qualifications such as functional skills.
In order to be successful for this position, you will need to complete an enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check. This will be arranged by the employer after successfully completing the initial interview.

Most aspects of the qualification and training will be delivered at your workplace where you will be supported throughout your training by your employer. You will have regular visits every six to eight weeks from your designated assessor who will help you, and monitor your progression throughout your apprenticeship.
As an additional qualification you will also achieve Emergency and Paediatric First Aid, and a Health and Safety Certificate, along with Internet Safety and Safeguarding.
