What is CSCS?
CSCS stands for Construction Skills Certification Scheme. CSCS is the leading skills certification scheme within the UK construction industry.

Holding a CSCS card is not a legislative requirement, and it is entirely up to the principal contractor or client whether workers are required to hold a valid card before they are allowed on site. However, most principal contractors and major house builders require workers on their sites to hold a valid CSCS card.

Who needs to take a CSCS Test?
The CSCS test is for anyone in the construction industry looking to work on large sites.
CSCS cards provide proof that individuals working on construction sites have the appropriate training and qualifications for the job they do, thereby helping to improve standards and safety in UK construction.

What types of CSCS Tests are available?
There are two types of CSCS Tests available that we offer. The two are:
• Supervisory
• Operative
Depending on what level of NVQ you have, will depend on what test you take.

How do I book a CSCS Test?
You will have to find your local certified CSCS Test Centre near you. If you’re in Plymouth, then your nearest test centre with free parking is based at Skills Group UK. Our centre is found at Western Wood Way. You can book your test with us here at Skills Group UK, here

What topics are covered in the CSCS Test?
This exam is designed to evaluate your knowledge of health and safety in the construction industry. It includes 50 multiple-choice questions that cover a wide range of topics, such as: Health and Safety Legislation & Hazard Identification.

How long does a CSCS Test take?
The CSCS Test can take up to 45 minutes. You will be given a maximum of 45 minutes to complete the test.

What documents do I need to bring to the CSCS Test?

You will need to bring a form of Photo ID which could be any of the following:
A valid UK Driving License
Valid signed Passport

What’s the pass rate for the CSCS Test?
The pass rate for the CSCS Test is 45 points out of 50.

What happens if I fail the CSCS Test?
You can only rebook after 48 hours of completing your previous test.

Is there a validity period for the CSCS Card?
Most CSCS cards are valid for five years. Once this time has passed, the card will need to be renewed. Red cards differ in their validity depending on the type that has been issued.

When you have successfully completed your CSCS test, you have 2 years to apply for your official CSCS Card. After that time, you will need to re-sit the test again.

Can I get a CSCS Card without taking the test?
No, you cannot get a CSCS Card without taking the exam. You have to have physical evidence (your score card) that you have passed the exam in order to order your CSCS Card.

Can I take the CSCS exam online at home?
No, the CSCS exam needs to be taken at a certified CSCS Test Centre.

Car

If you’re planning to travel to our Plympton CSCS Test Centre by car, the test centre is found at Skills Group. This is located just off the A38 (B3416) towards Langage Business Park. Follow signs towards Langage Business Park, then carry on as if you’re driving to Sparkwell. Carry on past the Toyota Snows Garage and take the 3rd exit at the roundabout. Once on Holland Road, take the next left onto Western Wood Way and follow the road up to Skills Group.

Parking
Unlike the city centre test centres, we have adequate free parking for everyone sitting the CSCS test. There is no requirement to register your car, and we have no parking restrictions.

Bus
There are several bus routes that stop at Western Wood Way from Plymouth City Centre. These are numbers 20, 20A, 21 & 21A.

Other Information
The test centre is open Thursday and Friday for AM & PM sessions. There is disabled access available at the centre, with wheelchair access throughout.
