Funding and Grants

To help with the costs of employing and training apprentices, there are a number of funds and grants available. Your Training Coordinator will help you identify any funding that your company may be eligible for, and assist you with completing the paperwork.

Apprenticeship Grant for Employers

The Apprenticeship Grant for Employers (AGE) is available to companies with less than 50 employees and that have not employed an apprentice in the last 12 months. If your company is eligible, you can claim up to five grants for consecutive 16 to 24 years olds enrolled on an apprenticeship programme.

At Skills Group we will help you complete all the necessary paperwork. If your company meets the government criteria, you will be entitled to receive your grant payment once the qualifying apprentice has completed 13 weeks of their apprenticeship. Please note the 13 weeks does not include any work trials or induction periods, and that payment can take a further 10 weeks.

For more detailed information, please click here for the government fact sheet for employers.

Funding for Training

The amount of funding available from the government for the apprenticeship training will depend on the age of the apprentice:

  • 16 to 18 year olds – the full cost of training for Intermediate (Level 2) and Advanced (Level 3) apprenticeships will be met by the Skills Funding Agency.
  • 19 year olds and older – in many cases funding is available, subject to eligibility.

National Insurance Relief for Employers

National insurance relief is avaliable to employers for any employees under 25 years of age who are on an approved UK apprenticeship framework.

School Sports Premium Funding

A school can use its Sports Premium Funding to help cover the costs of employing an apprentice as a PE Teaching Assistant.

Construction Industry Training Board Grants

Construction companies can apply for additional grants from the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) of up to £10,250 to help cover the costs of employing and training apprentices.
