Break the trend: Meet our apprenticeship champion Ryan Stephens

“Last year I Sat My GCSES, this Year I’m…”

“Working on my Level 2 Bricklaying Apprenticeship at Contour Bricklaying. I’d heard about apprenticeships at school and the idea of earning and learning definitely interested me. Since starting work, I’ve been involved in a wide range of tasks such as laying, mixing cement and stacking bricks and blocks. I like going out to sites and have worked on residential projects – it’s satisfying seeing the end project come together.

“The apprenticeship has given me a step up in my career. I’ve learnt how to save money which I will hopefully use to buy a car. I feel more independent and my confidence in making decisions and taking initiative has grown.

“My advice to anyone considering an apprenticeship would be to turn up on time, show enthusiasm and work hard!”
