Success rates for apprentices training with Skills Group are almost 20 per cent higher than the national average, new figures show.
Youngsters who become apprentices with the Devon-based training provider achieved a 90.7 per cent success rate during 2014/2015, well above the national average of 71.7 per cent.
The official figures, published by the national Skills Funding Agency, see Skills Group positioned in the top five per cent nationally, coming 33rd out of 728 apprenticeship providers in the country.
When broken down into the professional sectors, all the Skills Group achievement rates are higher than the national averages. Apprentices studying Care and Early Years achieved a 92.9 per cent success rate compared to 72.5 per cent nationally, while Teaching and Education saw 92.3 per cent success rate, compared to 72.5 per cent overall.
Business apprentices also did well, achieving a 91.6 per cent success rate (71.3 per cent nationally), while those taking Hairdressing apprenticeships achieved 91.3 per cent (68.6 per cent nationally), those in Construction witnessed an 86.9 per cent rate (70.3 per cent in comparison nationally), Engineering and Automotive came in at 89.4 per cent (75.4 per cent nationally) and Sport and Leisure apprentices had an 83.3 per cent success rate (77.0 per cent).
The figures are particularly impressive considering that Skills Group trained 1,150 youngsters as apprentices during the academic year, said the provider’s Apprenticeship Manager, Mandy Kerslake.
She added: “It is fantastic news for employers and learners. The investment we have made in our state-of-the-art training facilities, as well as our commitment to staff, helps to ensure that our success rates remain high among our apprentices year after year.
The demand for a skilled workforce has never been as strong and we are committed to helping employers fill the gaps in finding responsible, hard-working youngsters who can be trained in the skills that are desperately needed among our workforce today.”
Last year Skills Group unveiled its new £2.5m construction training centre in the hope of helping to fill the current skills shortage across the South West.
The training centre, on the outskirts of Plymouth, has the capacity to train up to 500 construction apprentices at any one time, taking the company’s overall capacity to over 2,000 apprentices a year.
