Hairdressing Apprentice

Partners Salon are looking for an apprentice to join their friendly hairdressing team.

The Apprentice’s Role:

Duties will include meeting & greeting clients, booking appointments, shampooing, conditioning, blow drying and styling hair, also colour and lightening using a range of techniques.
You’ll study hairdressing topics such as hair and skin testing, the effects of chemicals on hair and skin, and the principles of hair colour selection, alongside environmental and sustainable working practices. There’s also the option to learn about promoting products, perming, and working with different hair types.

You will also be required to attend weekly college sessions to cover additional practical training alongside structured theory sessions to enable you to cover the new Hair Professional Standard requirements.

Working Hours: The successful candidate will be working 37 hours per week (5days) between Tuesday – Saturday. Possible late night training session once a week.

Wages: £144.00 per week, based on a 37 hour week. Any overtime above the 40 hours per week, will be paid at the appropriate national minimum wage depending on age.

Holiday: 28 days holiday entitlement (including bank holidays) will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.

Past Apprentices

Both salons have successfully recruited and trained many juniors over the years they have been in business. They currently have an apprentice in both salons, and they will remain with them when their new salon opens. Many of their past apprentices have gone on to become highly successful stylists, some with salons of their own.

This experience enables the team to nurture and develop young talented stylists and set them up with the skills and ambition to go as far as they wish in a highly competitive industry.

Once having completed the level 2 qualification, there will be an opportunity to work towards an advanced level 3 to further enhance your skills.

Skills Required

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, be able to work well in a team, and to be able to portray a positive friendly attitude to customers at all times.

Candidates will need to be enthusiastic about training, have a creative flair and a genuine passion for the hairdressing industry. Building good relationships with clients is a vital part of a successful salon so excellent interpersonal skills are required.

Personal Qualities

Excellent communication skills, high standards of hygiene and appearance are essential. Being a keen team player are essential for any salon apprentice, you will learn how to demonstrate this consistently to ensure that you promote a positive image at all times.

Prior Qualifications

No prior qualifications are required, but must have a passion for Hairdressing and a willingness to learn.

The Apprenticeship in Hairdressing includes:

• Level 2 Hair Professional (Hairdressing / Barbering)
• Level 2 Diploma for Hair Professionals (Hairdressing / Barbering)
• Functional Skills in Maths and English

Some aspects of the qualification will be delivered on-site and you will have regular visits every 2 to 4 weeks from your designated assessor from Skills Group, who will monitor your progression throughout your apprenticeship.

As part of your apprenticeship you will be expected to attend college one day per week, where you will improve upon your knowledge and practical skills.
