Heavenly Scissors are looking for an enthusiastic Hairdressing Apprentice to join their team in Plympton.
The Apprentice Roles
The successful candidate will be involved in a variety of duties and will be fully supported through the apprenticeship. You will be guided by a qualified member of staff to help you learn the skills and knowledge you need to successfully complete your apprenticeship programme, and to become a fully qualified stylist. Duties are likely to include:
•Supporting the salon team
•Booking appointments with clients
•Styling/mixing and applying hair colour
You will learn a variety of hairdressing topics such as hair and skin testing, the effects of chemicals on hair and skin, and the principles of colour selection. There is also the opportunity to learn about promoting salon products. Advanced apprentices take their learning a step further by developing their cutting and colouring skills so they can carry out all the latest fashion techniques and maybe even determine the fashion looks of the future.
Working Hours: The successful candidate will be working 40 hours per week, over 5 days, between Monday and Saturday.
Wages: £166.00 per week. Any hours worked above 40 hours per week will be paid at the appropriate national minimum wage, depending on age.
Holiday: You will be entitled to 28 days holiday, including bank holidays, will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.

Heavenly Scissors Hair & Beauty are a salon based in Plympton. They are a small salon but pride themselves on their attention to detail and offering a unique tailored experience for each client They strongly in the company’s ethos of delivering the best customer journey, with the most up to date and creative services in a relaxed but professional atmosphere. So whether you’re looking for a total wedding package, a whole new look or alterations to an existing look there is someone who will meet and exceed your expectations. They have been established for over 5 years now and feel that the time is right for them to take on apprentice. The Owner has been a qualified hairdresser for many years which she is very supportive of her staff and always on hand to help. They use an extensive range of the latest styling equipment and products this includes award winning Schwarzkopf , Goldwell and milk shake.
On completion of the level 2 qualification, there will be an opportunity to work towards an advanced level 3 to further enhance your skills.
The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, be able to work well in a team, and to be able to portray a positive friendly attitude to customers at all times.
Candidates will need to be enthusiastic about training, have a creative flair and a genuine passion for the hairdressing industry. Building good relationships with clients is a vital part of a successful salon so excellent interpersonal skills are required.
Excellent communication skills, high standards of hygiene and appearance are essential. Being a keen team player are essential for any salon apprentice, you will learn how to demonstrate this consistently to ensure that you promote a positive image at all times.
No prior qualifications are required, but must have a passion for Hairdressing and a willingness to learn.
The Apprenticeship in Hairdressing includes:
• Level 2 Hair Professional (Hairdressing / Barbering)
• Level 2 Diploma for Hair Professionals (Hairdressing / Barbering)
• Functional Skills in Maths and English
Some aspects of the qualification will be delivered on-site and you will have regular visits every 6 to 12 weeks from your designated assessor from Skills Group, who will monitor your progression throughout your apprenticeship.
As part of your apprenticeship you will be expected to attend college one day per week, where you will improve upon your knowledge and practical skills.

You have been amazing and helped me to achieve my qualification. You’ve guided me through every step of the way, I really appreciate it, Vanessa, you have been my rock.
I always struggled in school as I wasn’t very academic, so knew learning on the job would be a better option for me. I would find it difficult to get up for 9am but now I wake up and look forward to my day. I wanted to try a hair apprenticeship as I’ve always been interested in hairdressing, and by the end of the first week, I already loved it!
I have developed a range of new skills through work including the technical, industry skills required for the job, to personal development such as ensuring I am always on time. The biggest change since leaving school is adjusting to the independence you gain from earning a salary. My advice to anyone thinking of doing an apprenticeship would be find what you like doing, and go for it!
Since starting the apprenticeship, I’ve become far more confident. In a classroom, you only interact with your classmates, but through working you develop your people skills as you interact with customers on a daily basis. At school, you are closely monitored and parented, however I am now more independent and feel grown up
The most important thing I’ve learnt since leaving school is that there are other routes to success than just academia. I failed my GCSEs, as I never suited the school environment. Now though, I’m really enjoying my apprenticeship as I’ve discovered I learn more through hands-on practice.
I would just like to thank you and your team for all the amazing work they do, you have provided me with the most invaluable experience which has helped to pave the way of my future. The work you do for young people is incredible!
