Fox House Retreat is looking for a level 2 hairdressing apprentice to join their friendly team in Plymouth City Centre. The employer is looking for someone who is enthusiastic with good social skills, who is creative, and really keen to learn.

The Apprentice’s Role

Duties will include meeting and greeting clients, booking appointments, shampooing, conditioning, blow drying and styling hair, also colour and lightening using a range of techniques.

You’ll study hairdressing topics such as hair and skin testing, the effects of chemicals on hair and skin, and the principles of hair colour selection, alongside environmental and sustainable working practices. There’s also the option to learn about promoting products, perming and working with different hair types.

You will also be required to attend weekly college sessions to cover additional practical master-classes, alongside structured theory sessions, to enable you to achieve the Hair Professional Standard requirements.

Working Hours: 36 hours per week over 5 days.

Wages: £154.80 per week, based on 36 hours per week.

Holiday: 28 days holiday entitlement (including bank holidays) will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.

Prior Apprentices

Fox House Retreat have successfully recruited and trained a number of Junior Stylists, and their past level 2 apprentices have been given the opportunity to progress on to a level 3 qualification, and in turn become Senior stylists within the salon.

This experience enables the team to nurture and develop young talented stylists and set them up with the skills and ambition to go as far as they wish in a highly competitive industry.

Skills Required

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and be able to work well in a team. You will need to have a high standard of personal hygiene and take pride in your appearance.

Building good relationships with clients is a vital part of a successful salon so excellent interpersonal skills are required.

Being a keen team player is also an essential quality for any salon apprentice, you will learn how to demonstrate this consistently to ensure that you promote a positive image at all times.

Personal Qualities

You will need to be able to portray a positive friendly attitude to customers at all times. Candidates will need to be enthusiastic about training, enjoy a creative flair and have a genuine passion for the hairdressing industry.

Prior Qualifications

No prior qualifications are required, just a passion for Hairdressing and a willingness to learn.

The Apprenticeship in Hairdressing includes:

  • Level 2 Hair Professional (Hairdressing / Barbering)
  • Level 2 Diploma for Hair Professionals (Hairdressing / Barbering)
  • Functional Skills in Maths and English

Some aspects of the qualification will be delivered on-site and you will have regular visits every 6 to 12 weeks from your designated assessor from Skills Group, who will monitor your progression throughout your apprenticeship.

As part of your apprenticeship you will be expected to attend college one day per week, where you will improve upon your knowledge and practical skills.
