Whitleigh Primary and Sir John Hunt School Federation are looking to take on a P.E and sports apprentice to join their friendly school based in Whitleigh.
The Apprentice’s Role
Throughout your apprenticeship you will be fully supported by a qualified member of staff who will teach you the skills and knowledge you need to know to successfully complete your programme.
In your day-to-day role you will be undertaking a variety within the school. You will be working with pupils under the guidance of the teacher to maximize pupil’s progress which will involve individuals or small groups in both the secondary and primary school.
You will be looking after all sports equipment, ensuring it is fit for use, in the right place and in good order. You will ensure it is available on request of teaching staff and set-up equipment required for a lesson.
You will be supporting the maintenance team in the upkeep of fitness equipment, preparing playing areas and securing goals/nets as required on occasions. You will be involved in school sports festivals such as the School Games competitions between local schools and developing the provision of lunchtime and after school sports clubs.
Working Hours: Your working hours will be Monday to Friday from 9.00am – 5.00pm, these hours may vary.
Wages: £148.00 per week, based on a 40 hour week. Any additional hours worked over 40 hours per week will be paid at the National Minimum Wage depending on age.
Holiday: 28 days holiday entitlement, including bank holidays, will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.

The school currently employ an Apprentice Sports Teaching Assistant. They have provided placements for apprentices previously and are excited for further apprentices to join their motivated team.
There will additionally be outstanding progression opportunities into other roles across the school curriculum.
Experience of working within an educational context would be advantageous, however a determination to see young people succeed is of the utmost importance. Strong organisational, communication and team work skills will form a key element of the position, with the successful candidate anticipated to regularly utilise their skills in forward planning and initiative.
An ability to motivate and inspire young people in striving towards their full potential will form an essential part of this role, with the ability to plan and adapt coaching sessions to keep them fun, engaging and exciting being important.
The ideal candidate will be a caring and motivated individual, who will be required to create an inclusive learning environment.
GCSE Grades A-C in Maths and English or the equivalent grades are required as part of the induction process with Skills Group.
No formal qualifications are required as full training will be provided. It would however be advantageous for the successful applicant to have an interest in the Sport and Education sectors, in addition to previous coaching experience or activity leadership. National Governing Body (NGB) qualifications would be advantageous, however a passion for sport is essential.
In order to be successful for this position, you will need to complete an enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check. This will be arranged by the employer after successfully completing the initial interview.

◾Internet Safety / Safeguarding
Most aspects of your training will be delivered on-site by the employer at your workplace, and you will have regular visits every six to eight weeks by your designated assessor from Skills Group, who will monitor your progress throughout your apprenticeship programme. Additional NGB and CPD courses may be provided as part of your professional development within the role.
