The apprentice will be working in the glass centre learning all aspects of glazing aswell as site visits for window fitting.
The Apprentice’s Role
The successful candidate will be working alongside experienced glazers and window fitters to learn their skills within the trade. You will be assisting with loading, preparing work areas, cleaning of glass and assisting by using any skills that the successful candidate will learn.
Working Hours: The working hours will be Monday to Friday, 8am – 5pm.
Wages: £148.00 per week. Any overtime above the 40 hours per week, will be paid at the appropriate national minimum wage depending on age.
Holiday: 28 days holiday entitlement, including bank holidays, will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.

Union Glass are a specialist glass and glazing business based in the city centre of Plymouth and are widely renowed specialists in splashbacks, shower screens, replacement double glazing, mirrors filming and sandblasting, all glass supplies and glazing and leaded lights and stained glass.
Union Glass Centre has been a familar name in the supply of glass in Devon and Cornwall for over 35 years.They have onsite facilities for drilling, edging and sandblasting as well as extensive stocks of all types of glass, many of which can be seen in the showroom. They have just heavily invested brand new state of the art machinary to aid with the process.
Whilst you will initially be working towards a Level 3 qualification, there will be an opportunity for an apprentice with the right skills, ability and attitude to progress onto a full time role within the company.
The learner will need to be enthusiastic, with good people skills. Ability to work well within a team and provide good customer service.
The successful candidate will need to be reliable, enthusiastic and committed to the role.
GCSE or equivalent grades A-E (or equivalent) is desired but not essential.
The Apprenticeship in Fenestration Installation consists of:
◾Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Glazing
◾Level 3 Certificate in Glass Related Operations
◾Functional Skills in Maths and English (Level 2)
◾Construction Skills Health, Safety and Environment test – CSCS Test
◾Emergency First Aid
◾Certified Health and Safety Course
◾Internet Safety / Safeguarding
Most aspects of your training will be delivered on-site with the employer, and you will have regular site visits every six to eight weeks from your designated assessor, who will monitor your progress throughout your apprenticeship programme.
Skills Group will also support you to achieve Emergency First Aid and a Health and Safety Certificate, along with Internet Safety and Safeguarding.
You will also be supported by Skills Group to complete your CSCS online test, to achieve your CSCS Card which enables you to carry out site work, if required.
