THC Carpentry are looking to employ a carpentry apprentice based in Devon and Cornwall and the surrounding areas. this position is based in Bude, Cornwall.
The Apprentice’s Role
As a carpentry apprentice you will learn all aspects of carpentry and joinery as well as building and construction work, you will be expected to learn how to measure, cut and build using materials. You will be working with wood on a day to day basis and must be precise with all of your work. You will be expected to be willing to learn and take direction well, you must have good attention to detail. You will learn other aspects of the building and construction trade to enhance and develop your knowledge. The successful candidate will learn all aspects of carpentry within a commercial & residential environment, whilst working towards achieving their level 2 Standards and NVQ.
The candidate will be involved in all areas from start to finish. You will be shown the use of specialist tools and equipment used for this role, and will be supervised at all times by a fully qualified member of staff.
You will follow all health and safety procedures in the work place at all times, and ensure that all tools are clean and put away correctly at the end of each day.
Working Hours: The working hours for this vacancy will be 40 hours a week and the shifts will be varied.
Wages: £156.00 per week. Any overtime above the 40 hours per week, will be paid at the appropriate national minimum wage depending on age.
Holiday: 28 days holiday entitlement, including bank holidays, will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.

Having been in the carpentry contracting business for many years, THC Carpentry are well known for their outstanding workmanship and competitive prices. THC Carpentry are based in Liskeard, but cover the South West of England. They currently have two vacancies for two different construction sites, one in Robourough and one in Bude. THC Carpentry work on many sites across Devon and Cornwall such as Bovis, Kier and Roborough Eco Homes.
THC Carpentry offer progression onto Level 3 Advanced Carpentry and Joinery for the right candidate.

Basic Maths and English.
The Apprenticeship in Wood Occupations Site Carpentry consists of:
◾Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Wood Occupations (Site Carpentry)
◾Level 2 Standard Carpentry and Joinery
◾Functional Skills in Maths and English (Level 1)
◾Construction Skills Health, Safety and Environment test – CSCS Test
◾Emergency First Aid
◾Certified Health and Safety Course
◾Internet Safety / Safeguarding
As part of the apprenticeship programme, attendance is required at our Skills Group training centre for one day per week. All other aspects of the qualification will be delivered on-site by the employer. You will have regular visits every six to eight weeks from your designated Skills Group assessor, who will monitor your progress during your apprenticeship training.
Whilst at the Skills Group training centre, you will learn the necessary skills and gain experience to help you throughout your role. Part of your training will be knowledge and theory based, whilst the rest will be practical. Learning additional skills will benefit you on returning to the employer.
As an additional qualification you will also achieve your Emergency First Aid and certified Health and Safety Certificates, along with Internet Safety and Safeguarding.
