GK Plastering and Dry lining Ltd require an apprentice Plasterer to join their experienced team based in Plymouth and the surrounding area.
The Apprentice’s Role
As the apprentice you will be expected to work hard on a daily basis and experience all types of plastering and labouring when needed, you will be taught how to work quickly and efficiently as well as safely at all times. You will be working in a close knit experienced team to achieve deadlines whilst producing high standards of work. Any basic knowledge of the trade will be advantageous and you must be enthusiastic and willing to learn. Dry lining methods are used to hide wiring or pipes, improve a room’s acoustics, and provide a cavity space for insulation or to smooth out uneven walls during renovation work. You will be measuring and cutting plasterboard to the right sizes and angles, fixing the plasterboard panels to timber or metal frames (walls and ceilings) and reading architect drawings to gain a visual understanding of the work involved, then seeing the vision becoming reality by applying your skills.
Working Hours: The working hours will be 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. Some flexibility will be required due to the nature of the job.
Wages: £156.00 per week. Any overtime above the 40 hours per week, will be paid at the appropriate national minimum wage depending on age.
Holiday: 28 days holiday entitlement, including bank holidays, will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.

GK offers a comprehensive range of services and products for both external and internal work and examples of completed projects include many prestige and landmark buildings around the region.
The company is an approved installer of MetSec and Ayrshire Steel Knauf frame systems, dry lining and internal partitions and also an approved specialist applicator of various products.
Internal work includes dry lining, metal stud partitions, suspended ceilings, plastering and floor screeding.
After successfully completing a Level 2 qualification in plastering you will be able to progress onto an advanced Level 3 apprenticeship should you demonstrate the right skills and qualities.
The ideal candidate should be eager and keen to succeed within the construction industry. They should be able to cope with the physical demands of the role and to work well in a small friendly team. The potential candidate will need to have good attendance and be prompt and on time with the work that you carry out.
You will need good hand eye coordination skills with an eye for detail and have a focused approach on all the work that you carry out.
The successful candidate will need to have strong motivation to work hard and to achieve a high standard of workmanship. You will need to be confident and outgoing as well enthusiastic about the Construction Industry, especially within the Plastering and rendering sector. Good timekeeping and attendance is required both with the employer and when attending the Skills Group training centre. You must have a good level of stamina and fitness for this role as it can be challenging and demanding.
Qualifications required for this role include GCSE’s grades A – E in Maths and English, or equivalent qualifications

• Internet Safety / Safeguarding
Attendance is required at our training centre for one day per week. Your training will consist of part knowledge and part theory, whilst the rest will be practical. During this time you will be shown the necessary hand skills required to use specialist tools, carry out duties such as plastering and skimming, rendering, dry lining work, floor screeding and fibrous moulds. Learning these skills will benefit you on returning to your employer.
You will also have the opportunity to complete additional qualifications in Emergency First Aid and certified Health and Safety, along with Internet Safety and Safeguarding.
Skills Group will also support you to complete your online CSCS test, in order to apply for your CSCS Card. This will enable you to carry out site work with the employer when required.
