The Apprentice’s Role
You will be employed by a reputable local employer who will provide on the job training in a well equipped workshop, and given time off to attend college whilst you work towards your Level 2 Diploma and NVQ In Bench Joinery. You will be based at the workshop and your role will include selecting different types of wood, staining, using various tools and machinery to cut and shape, reading and working to produce items from drawings/plans, and finishing work. This is a great opportunity for the right candidate to learn a trade which will take them through their working life as a professional Bench Joiner. You will be working mainly in a workshop based in the centre of Liskeard the role will primarily be making bespoke indoor/outdoor furniture, fitted furniture and other products made of wood. Using a range of hand tools and industrial woodworking machinery and will also fully-finish products with materials like paints, wood coatings, glazing and sealants.
Working Hours: The working hours will be Monday to Friday, 8am – 5pm.
Wages: £148.00 per week. Any overtime above the 40 hours per week, will be paid at the appropriate national minimum wage depending on age.
Holiday: 28 days holiday entitlement, including bank holidays, will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.

The successful applicant must be enthusiastic and committed to a career in construction, punctual, reliable, eager to learn, have an interest in design and isn't afraid to bring fresh ideas to the team. You must have a genuine interest and desire to work in this area of construction.
Qualifications are not essential however a level of English and Maths would be desirable due to the nature of the job.

As part of the apprenticeship programme, attendance is required at our Skills Group training centre for one day per week. All other aspects of the qualification will be delivered on-site by the employer. You will have regular visits every six to eight weeks from your designated Skills Group assessor, who will monitor your progress during your apprenticeship training.
Whilst at the Skills Group training centre, you will learn the necessary skills and gain experience to help you throughout your role. Part of your training will be knowledge and theory based, whilst the rest will be practical. You will develop your hand skills, carry out brick and block work, learn the correct use of specific tools, carry out pointing and learn mortar ratio mixes under the guidance of your assessor. Learning all these additional skills will benefit you on returning to the employer.
As an additional qualification you will also achieve your Emergency First Aid and certified Health and Safety Certificates, along with Internet Safety and Safeguarding.
