Maximise Construction are looking to take on an apprentice to join their team in Plymouth.
The Apprentice’s Role
A well-established professional building and home improvement company is looking to take on an apprentice Bricklayer to join their experienced team dealing in all aspects of the building trade within high-end building and home improvement sector.
Maximise Construction undertakes work in Devon & Cornwall area delivering high end building work.
Along with this, you will be applying bricks, blocks and pavers in lines or following decorative patterns or designs, clearing up work space after each day and cleaning tools.
You will be working alongside other builders so will also pick up experience in other home improvement activities that are carried out. Due to the nature of the work, a CSCS card is required to be able to get onto the building site, training on this will be given if you pass the interview stage with Skills Group.
Working Hours: The working hours will be 40 hours per week with a 8am -5pm. Any overtime above the 40 hours per week, will be paid at the appropriate national minimum wage depending on age.
Wages: £180 a week, potentially increasing with performance related pay reviews throughout your apprenticeships.
Holiday: 28 days holiday entitlement (including bank holidays) will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.

On completion of your level 2 apprenticeship with the company, you will have the opportunity to progress onto the level 3 in Bricklaying and join the well-established team full time.
Skills requiredAny applicant that applies will need to have a clear focus on what they want to do, and show motivation and good time keeping skills. Any applicant will need to have an ability to cope with the physical demands of the role. Transport is preferable, but not a requirement and being able to use their own initiative is essential.
Dan is always very busy and works very hard. The candidate Dan would look to take on would have to have a similar work ethic. The successful candidate would have to display an eagerness to learn and listen to instruction. They would also have to be a good time keeper.
Qualifications required for this role include GCSE's grades A* – E in Maths and English, or equivalent qualifications.
The Apprenticeship in Trowel Occupations consists of:
•Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Trowel Occupations
•Level 2 Diploma in Bricklaying
•Functional Skills in Maths and English (Level 1)
•Construction Skills Health, Safety and Environment test – CSCS Test
•Emergency First Aid
•Certified Health and Safety Course
•Internet Safety / Safeguarding
As part of the apprenticeship programme, attendance is required at our Skills Group training centre for one day per week. All other aspects of the qualification will be delivered on-site by the employer. You will have regular visits every six to eight weeks from your designated Skills Group assessor, who will monitor your progress during your apprenticeship training.
Whilst at the Skills Group training centre, you will learn the necessary skills and gain experience to help you throughout your role. Part of your training will be knowledge and theory based, whilst the rest will be practical. You will develop your hand skills, carry out brick and block work, learn the correct use of specific tools, carry out pointing and learn mortar ratio mixes under the guidance of your assessor. Learning all these additional skills will benefit you on returning to the employer.
As an additional qualification you will also achieve your Emergency First Aid and Health and Safety Certificate, along with Internet Safety and Safeguarding.
As part of your apprenticeship Skills Group will also support you to complete your online CSCS test, which will enable you to apply for your CSCS Card. This shows that you are at the required competent level to carry out site work with the employer.
