A fantastic opportunity with a well established local employer is available, you’ll be expected to demonstrate the right skills and attitude in order to make a mark within the plastering industry.

The Apprentice’s Role

As part of your apprenticeship and employment with JH Lidstone you will cover Exterior plastering, Interior plaster, Plaster boarding, Stud partitioning, Ceiling plastering and Traditional wet plastering. You will learn how to screed a room or area correctly in preparation of under floor heating. You will become familiar with the tools used within the plastering trade and the necessary skills to use all the equipment associated with the plastering industry.

Working Hours: The working hours will be 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7:30am – 4:00pm. Some flexibility is required due to the nature of the job.

Wages: £148.00 per week. Any overtime above the 40 hours per week, will be paid at the appropriate national minimum wage depending on age.

Holiday: 28 days holiday entitlement, including bank holidays, will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.

JH Lidstone have supported over six apprentices throughout their level 2 apprenticeship qualification through Skills Group, progressing onto their level 3. After completing a level 2 apprenticeship qualification there may be an opportunity to progress onto a level 3 advanced apprenticeship qualification for the right candidate.

Skills Required

The job requires physical strength and you will need to have good work ethic, motivation, focused and a strong desire to achieve. You will learn how to carry out safe working practices in construction and you will need to be able to work as part of a team and use your own initiative.

Personal Qualities

The work with JH Lidstone will involve working in both commercial and residential settings so you must be polite and friendly at all times. You will need to an excellent team player and be able to learn new skills quickly. You must be focused and have a strong desire to achieve within the construction industry.

Prior Qualifications

GCSE's are not essential however a level of English and Maths would be desirable

The Apprenticeship in Plastering includes:

• Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Plastering
• Level 2 Diploma in Plastering
• Functional Skills in Maths and English (Level 1)
• Construction Skills Health, Safety and Environment test – CSCS Test
• Emergency First Aid
• Certified Health and Safety Course
• Internet Safety / Safeguarding

Attendance is required at our training centre for one day per week. Your training will consist of part knowledge and part theory, whilst the rest will be practical. During this time you will be shown the necessary hand skills required to use specialist tools, carry out duties such as plastering and skimming, rendering, dry lining work, floor screeding and fibrous moulds. Learning these skills will benefit you on returning to your employer.

You will also have the opportunity to complete additional qualifications in Emergency First Aid and certified Health and Safety, along with Internet Safety and Safeguarding.

Skills Group will also support you to complete your online CSCS test, in order to apply for your CSCS Card. This will enable you to carry out site work with the employer when required.
