Interseal, based in Plympton are looking for a committed and enthusiastic individual to join their team as a Fenestration Installation apprentice.
The Apprentice’s Role
The successful applicant will be working in teams of two or more people. They will be making sure that the new windows fit the space available, enlarging or reducing the space if necessary. If existing windows have to be removed, they take them out using hand and power tools.
They will be using a variety of different tools which they will guide and assist you in learning. You may also be:
- Fitting conservatories
- Replacing doors and weatherboarding
You will be working indoors and outdoors in most weather conditions. There may be some seasonal variation in the work and most firms are busiest in the warmer, drier summer months. The work can involve working at heights, using ladders and scaffolding, and some heavy lifting so please bare this in mind when applying for the position.

Working Hours: You will be working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8am – 5pm.
Wages: £148.00 per week. Any overtime above the 40 hours per week, will be paid at the appropriate national minimum wage depending on age.
Holiday: 28 days holiday entitlement (including bank holidays) will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.

Whilst you will initially be working towards a Level 3 qualification, there will be an opportunity for an apprentice with the right skills, ability and attitude to progress onto a full time role within the company.
The successful candidate must be able to work within a team and get on with people of all ages. They must be polite and friendly with the ability to communicate with others whether it be customers or colleagues.
They will be honest and trustworthy, as they will deal with members of the public in their own homes. They must also have good time keeping and communication skills. Being polite and courteous to all customers and members of staff is also crucial at all times
GCSE (or equivalent) English and Maths above a C is desirable but a positive attitude and good work ethic is essential.
The Apprenticeship in Fenestration Installation consists of:
- Level 3 NVQ Certificate in Fenestration Installation
- Level 3 Certificate in Glass Related Operations
- Functional Skills in Maths and English (Level 2)
- Construction Skills Health, Safety and Environment test – CSCS Test
- Emergency First Aid
- Certified Health and Safety Course
- Internet Safety / Safeguarding
Most aspects of your training will be delivered on-site with the employer, and you will have regular site visits every six to eight weeks from your designated assessor, who will monitor your progress throughout your apprenticeship programme.
Skills Group will also support you to achieve Emergency First Aid and a Health and Safety Certificate, along with Internet Safety and Safeguarding.
You will also be supported by Skills Group to complete your CSCS online test, to achieve your CSCS Card which enables you to carry out site work, if required.
