Little Ones Childcare are looking to recruit an apprentice to join their nursery in Budlake.
The Apprentice’s Role
The successful apprentice will support staff members to meet the children’s needs by providing physical care. This will include helping children when eating and drinking, ensuring that mealtimes are a time of pleasant social sharing, supporting opportunities for children’s exercise and quiet periods and washing and changing children as required. You will also learn how to recognise when children are unwell, providing comfort and warmth to a poorly or upset child, making sure appropriate rest/sleep times are given.
You will help children to be confident by supporting their social and emotional development. This will include assisting children to develop positive aspects of their behaviour, helping them to settle, showing them how to relate to others and care for themselves. Along with this, you will help staff prepare and maintain the nursery for children by organising, setting out and clearing away activities and equipment. You will be assisting with the preparation and completion of activities suitable to the age and ability range of children in your area and in conjunction with other members of your team.
You will work alongside other members of your team to assist with communication and support for parents, and other family members when applicable, to help ensure they are aware of their child’s progress and development whilst in our care. Along with this, you will be working with parents of special needs children to enable full integration into Little Ones Childcare and to help to ensure the provision of a high quality, professional environment that meets the needs of all individual children from differing cultures and religious backgrounds, and at all stages of development, without distinction or exception. Working Hours: You will be working 40 hour per week, 8am – 5pm, Monday to Friday.
Wages: £172.00 per week, based on a 40 hour week. Any overtime above the 40 hours per week, will be paid at the appropriate national minimum wage depending on age.
Holiday: 28 days holiday entitlement, including bank holidays, will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.

For over a decade, Little Ones Childcare has been working closely with parents to deliver the highest quality nursery and early education for children aged from 3 months until they start school. Little Ones provide children with opportunities to learn, develop and grow (and have lots of fun along the way!) within a safe, loving environment.
Little Ones Childcare have had many apprentices that have completed the Level 2 qualification and progressed to their Level 3 apprenticeship. They are keen to support and train apprentices to succeed in the child care sector.
On completion of your Level 2 qualification, you will become a qualified child care assistant, and you may be given the opportunity to progress onto a Level 3 apprenticeship, which will set you up for a continued career in the child care sector.
The suitable candidate will be caring and passionate about looking after children. They will need to be able to communicate with children and adults, be reliable and hardworking. Have an ability to follow procedures, to work as part of a team and be able to use their own initiative.
Great leadership skills, organisational skills and confidence are essential. An ability to work under pressure, as well as good problem solving skills and flexibility are desirable. The ideal candidate must have enthusiasm, dedication and a genuine love of children.
The apprentice will need to be fun, reliable, outgoing and have a willingness to learn in a busy nursery that is focused on providing high quality child care. You will need to be enthusiastic, responsible, and keen to succeed.
Qualifications required for this role include a GCSE A-C in Maths and English.
In order to be successful for this position, you will need to complete an enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check. This will be arranged by the employer after successfully completing the initial interview.
The Apprenticeship in Child Care includes:
Level 2 Diploma for Early Years Practitioners (Standard)
Functional Skills in Maths & English level 1 & level 2

Most aspects of the qualification and training will be delivered at your workplace where you will be supported throughout your training by your employer. You will have regular visits every six to eight weeks from your designated assessor who will help you, and monitor your progression throughout your apprenticeship.
Once the above is achieved, which will take a minimum of 12 months, the End Point Assessment period can proceed. This involves the learner taking an online knowledge test and completing a professional discussion with an independent assessor.
This will typically take 3 months to complete.

I just wanted to say the biggest thank you to Vanessa, my trainer. You have made my journey so much easier, I don’t know what I would have done without you. You have been amazing and helped me to achieve my qualification. You’ve guided me through every step of the way, I really appreciate it, Vanessa, you have been my rock.
I always struggled in school as I wasn’t very academic, so knew learning on the job would be a better option for me. I would find it difficult to get up for 9am but now I wake up and look forward to my day. I wanted to try a hair apprenticeship as I’ve always been interested in hairdressing, and by the end of the first week, I already loved it!
I have developed a range of new skills through work including the technical, industry skills required for the job, to personal development such as ensuring I am always on time. The biggest change since leaving school is adjusting to the independence you gain from earning a salary. My advice to anyone thinking of doing an apprenticeship would be find what you like doing, and go for it!
Since starting the apprenticeship, I’ve become far more confident. In a classroom, you only interact with your classmates, but through working you develop your people skills as you interact with customers on a daily basis. At school, you are closely monitored and parented, however I am now more independent and feel grown up
The most important thing I’ve learnt since leaving school is that there are other routes to success than just academia. I failed my GCSEs, as I never suited the school environment. Now though, I’m really enjoying my apprenticeship as I’ve discovered I learn more through hands-on practice.
