Trenant House is currently looking to recruit a Health and Social Care Apprentice, who is keen to develop a long term career in the sector, in Plymouth.

The Apprentice’s Role

You will be required to support and assist other staff members with the following: provide support, advocacy and information to the individuals they support, provide emotional and practical support to service users, help service users meet their personal care needs sensitively and appropriately to a high standard, including personal hygiene, assistance with laundry, and preparing meals and drinks, enable service users to achieve independence as far as possible in all areas of their life by providing appropriate information, opportunity, training, counselling and support, assist service users to identify and choose their support needs, assist in devising, implementing and reviewing care plans, promote independence, light domestic duties and support with visits.

Working Hours: The working week will be 30-40 hours which will include shift work, to reflect a realistic care setting.

Wages: £148.00 per week, based on a 40 hour week. Any overtime above the 40 hours per week, will be paid at the appropriate national minimum wage depending on age.

Holiday: 28 days holiday entitlement (including bank holidays) will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.

Trenant House is conveniently located at the junction of Queen's road and Lipson road and is easily accessible from the city centre of Plymouth. The objective of the home is to provide respite and rehabilitation, to a total care for those who are more dependent. This is accessed on a one to one basis care plan. Trenant House is part of a larger organisation, where training and development is at the forefront.

On completion of your qualification, you will have the opportunity to developing your skills, experience and knowledge further within the working environment.

Skills Required

The right candidate will be hardworking, honest and caring with good communication skills, able to take instruction from management, peers and Service Users, think on your feet, and must have a desire to make a difference in the wellbeing & lives of Service Users.

Personal Qualities

The successful applicant will need to be highly reliable and extremely patient, with a kind, fair and supportive approach to be able to work effectively in this care setting.

As an apprentice, you must be able to work with other adults and be able to demonstrate good teamwork skills, and where required, have the ability to work alone in an organised and focused manner.

An ability to communicate well with all ages and ability is essential.

Prior Qualifications

5 x GCSE A*-C are desirable but not essential.

The Apprenticeship in Health and Social Care in:
◾Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults) for England
◾Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care
◾Functional Skills in Maths and English
◾Employment Rights and Responsibilities
◾Emergency First Aid
◾Certified Health and Safety Course
◾Internet Safety / Safeguarding

Most aspects of the qualification and training will be delivered at your workplace, where you will be supported throughout your training by experienced colleagues. You will have regular visits every six to eight weeks from your designated assessor who will help you and monitor your progress throughout your apprenticeship programme.

As an additional qualification Skills Group will also help you to achieve your Emergency First Aid, and certified Health and Safety Certificates, along with Internet Safety and Safeguarding.
