Balmain Care Home are looking for an apprentice who is eager to support and care for individual with complex needs.
The Apprentice’s Role
Balmain is looking for an apprentice to grow and develop through a level 2 health & social care apprenticeship. They will aim to train the apprentice(s) in all aspects of the care industry. The right candidate will be passionate about care, show adaptability skills and communicate with ease. They will above all have an interest in mental health and empathy for their service users.
The apprentice will need to follow instruction well, work well as a team and demonstrate confidence in communicating with peers, residents and team members. Due to the nature of the work ideally the candidate will not be upset by service users shouting or be put off by mental health needs. They will be accepting, open and be up for a rewarding challenge.
The apprentice will be involved in the following:
• Provide support, advocacy and information to the individuals they support.
• Provide emotional and practical support to service users.
• Help service users meet their personal care needs sensitively and appropriately to a high standard, including personal hygiene, assistance with laundry, and preparing meals and drinks.
• Enable service users to achieve independence as far as possible in all areas of their life by providing appropriate information, opportunity, training, counselling and support.
• Assist service users to identify and choose their support needs.
• Assist in devising, implementing and reviewing care plans.
• Promote independence
• Light domestic duties
Working Hours: You will be working 30-40 hours per week, specific shifts to be negotiated with the care home.
Wages: £148.00 per week, based on a 40 hour week. Any overtime above the 40 hours per week, will be paid at the appropriate national minimum wage depending on age.
Holiday: 28 days holiday entitlement (including bank holidays) will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.

Balmain Care Home is situated in the Stoke area of Plymouth. It has 29 rooms available, some of which are en-suite. The home is split into four houses, each with it’s own lounge area. The primary function at Balmain is to offer support to those who are suffering from Mental Health issues or illnesses. They are rated as Good by the regulating body and are part of a larger group of homes.
On completion of your qualification, you will have the opportunity to developing your skills, experience and knowledge further within the working environment.

The successful applicant will need to be highly reliable and extremely patient, with a kind, fair and supportive approach to be able to work effectively in this care setting.
As an apprentice, you must be able to work with other adults and be able to demonstrate good teamwork skills, and where required, have the ability to work alone in an organised and focused manner.
An ability to communicate well with all ages and ability is essential.
GCSE A-C* desirable but not essential.

Most aspects of the qualification and training will be delivered at your workplace, where you will be supported throughout your training by experienced colleagues. You will have regular visits every six to eight weeks from your designated assessor who will help you and monitor your progress throughout your apprenticeship programme.
As an additional qualification Skills Group will also help you to achieve your Emergency First Aid, and certified Health and Safety Certificates, along with Internet Safety and Safeguarding.
