Leaving school can be extremely daunting, even more so when you don’t know what you want to do and your shy nature makes it even more difficult to talk about.
Connor Stapleton was in just that position. After leaving school he was unsure what to do. After discussing options with friends and family, he decided a career in construction was the perfect career path for him.
Connor started our full-time construction programme at Skills Group, learning the skills and knowledge needed to start a placement in Bricklaying, soon he started work experience with KCC Builders, where he thrived! So much so that they took him on as a Level 2 Bricklaying Apprentice.
Tom from KCC Builders said “Connor is working to an excellent level and progressing well with his hand skills. He is reliable, punctual and socialises well with everyone. He has a fantastic mind set and is highly motivated; from my experience, I believe Connor will have a fantastic career in Bricklaying.”
Connor beamed “I love working with KCC, I like working outside and having a hands on job. I enjoy getting stuck into tasks and making sure I complete them to a high quality. When I get praised it makes me even more confident that I have made the right career choice.”
“I enjoyed completing my initial work placement as it gave me the skills and knowledge to do the job properly, plus I’ve have to learn life skills; having to be on time, deal with challenges and taking on more responsibilities.”
Connor is doing incredibly well within his apprenticeship and has come out of his shell since going into the work place. “I am making friends and becoming much more confident around other people.”
Once Connor finishes his Level 2, he wants to complete his Level 3 and one day, own his own business and take on apprentices, to give them the opportunities he had.
We are confident that he’ll do just that!
