Choosing a career and finding out how to get there isn’t easy. With so many options available, making decisions about your future can be overwhelming – what if you want to change your mind? Well, you can.
If you’ve started a job, sixth form, college, or even university, and decided it’s not for you, an apprenticeship could be the perfect way to get your foot on the ladder. Here at Skills Group, we take on apprentices all year round – it’s never too late. Plus, there are plenty of pros: earning while you learn (yep, no student debt!), hands-on skills that employers really want and an industry-recognised qualification at the end of it.
But don’t just take our word for it! Here’s what three apprentices who changed their minds have to say…
John Cronin did a year of A Levels before starting his Child Care apprenticeship with Discovery Day Nursery:
“Staying on at school wasn’t for me; it was hands-on experience in the Child Care sector that I really wanted. Now I’m being paid to learn and the best thing about my apprenticeship is watching the children grow as people. If you know what you want to do, an apprenticeship can get you there.”
After leaving Plymouth for London to study for a degree in Dance, Olivia Appleby came home to start a Business Administration apprenticeship with Marchand Petit:
“I think I was being pushed towards the university pathway, but it wasn’t for me. I picked an apprenticeship because I find it so much easier to learn on-the-job rather than in the classroom. I really enjoy what I’m doing.”
Molly Hallett had a full-time job in retail before setting her sights on a Hairdressing apprenticeship:
“I was working in customer service, but getting a trade that I could develop in was really important to me, which is why I changed direction and chose an apprenticeship.”
