Vehicle Repair Apprentice

A large and busy motor vehicle body repair garage in Plympton are looking to employ an enthusiastic young person who has a proven interest in the trade. You will be undertaking a recognised qualification at Level 2 with the opportunity to progress onto Level 3.
The Apprentice’s Role
The successful apprentice will initially be working alongside an experienced Vehicle Body Repair Specialist, watching and picking up skills and knowledge of the trade. This will involve prepping surfaces, grinding down imperfections and filling minor scratches.
The apprentices will check which areas of the vehicles need repairing and learn how this will be done. You will get involved in taking off panels, filling minor dents and sorting out larger areas of damage. There may also be some basic mechanics work involved where required and this can involve working with other staff in the garage.
Logging of work to be carried out by other employees is needed as is liaising with office staff about new work coming into the garage. The apprentice will also need to maintain a clean and tidy workspace, making sure all tools and equipment are kept in excellent order.
Working Hours: The typical working week is Monday to Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm.
Wages: £156.00 per week, based on a 40 hour week. Any additional hours worked over 40 hours per week will be paid at the national minimum wage depending on age.
Holiday: 28 days holiday entitlement (including bank holidays) will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.

This firm has been established over 30 years providing a high quality body and accident repair service. Originally based in a small unit close to Market Road, Plympton, the business has grown and developed its services to the extent where they had to move into their current premises over 10 years ago.
The company is continuing to build up a large list of customers and is considering extending its existing site to take on more work.
The firm have had several apprentices come through the business over the years both in Body Repair and Refinishing. They currently have two staff employed who have completed their Level 3 apprenticeships.
There are good prospects for apprentice to progress onto Level 3 Body Repair once they have completed Level 2.
You will need to have a good attention to detail and be able to take on board potentially complex instructions. Good communication is required as is a methodical and organised approach to the work. Assisting your colleagues with other tasks as well as those set for yourself is needed.
Occasionally extra hours will be asked of you to finish off jobs for customers. Some knowledge or proven experience in the motor trade would be beneficial as this will prove your interest in this sector.
You must be pleasant, dedicated to completing your training and be prepared to assist colleagues and the employer with other jobs where required.
Qualifications required for this role include GCSE’s grades A-E in Maths and English, or equivalent qualifications.
The Level 2 Apprenticeship in Vehicle Accident Body Repair consists of:
Attendance will be required at our training centre for one day a week. All other aspects of the qualification will be delivered on site by the employer, where you will have regular visits every six to eight weeks from your designated assessor who will monitor your progress during your training.
Whilst at the Skills Group training centre, you will learn the necessary skills and gain experience to help you throughout your role. Part of your training will be knowledge and theory based, whilst the rest will be practical.
